Nasarawa State governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura has restated that he would ensure that he leaves zero debt profile for his successor in the interest of common good and overall development of the state.
Al-Makura stated this in Lafia yesterday while answering questions from journalists as part of activities marking the 14th anniversary of the establishment of Federal Radio Corporation Precious. The governor said his decision was based on the fact that it is the common masses that were always at the receiving end of such bad debt whose servicing hampers delivery of service.
He regretted that on assumption of office in 2011, his administration inherited over N30 billion in bad debts which took him three years to service and which immensely affected his drive towards providing the needed infrastructure to the people of the state.
The governor said his decision has no partisan consideration of which
party or candidate succeeds him in 2019 but solely the concern for the welfare and plight of the poor citizens and communities in dire need of social amenities which can only be gotten through prudent management of resources.
Al-Makura also reiterated his administration’s commitment towards provision of infrastructure in the rural areas, pointing out that in 2017 alone government has embarked on the construction of over 600 bridges and culverts worth over N700 billion
