Southern Kaduna Crisis: Four Communities Resolve To End Hostilities

Four communities of Kaninkon Chiefdom in Southern Kaduna, Kaduna State,  have again reaffirmed commitment to end hostilities in their localities.
The communities agreed to build trust amongst themselves and proffer solutions that will end the hostilities that have engulfed them.
The communities made the commitment during the sensitization and consultation meetings with key stakeholders in each of the communities organized by Global Peace Foundation (GPF) Nigeria as part of an ongoing mediation effort in Southern Kaduna communities through the
‘One Family under God’ Campaign and Peace building program.
Addressing over 40 stakeholders including faith leaders, traditional rulers, women and youth leaders in each of the communities separately,  the country director, Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, Mr. John Oko commiserated with the communities on the loss of human lives and properties resulting from violence.
He reiterated his organiSation’s commitment to working with the communities to ensure that peace, which is the foundation for development, returns to their communities.
Earlier, the Northern Co-coordinators, GPF Nigeria, Rev. John Joseph Hayab and Sheikh Halliru Abdullahi Maraya reminded the communities that they may not achieve the peace they desire except they agree as a people to dialogue and forgive one another as brothers and sisters of the same human family contained in the Holy Bible and Quran.
They appealed to the participants to take the message of forgiveness and tolerance in all they do so as to create the enabling environment for all to live peacefully.
In their separate remarks, the District Heads of Ambam, Goska, Dangoma and Bakin Kogi Communities, Hosea David, Moses Barde, Mahmuda Suleiman and Bako Galadima respectively commended the foresight of the Foundation to mediate in restoring confidence and trust amongst their people and called on peace loving people to support them to succeed.
They pointed out that, they will not be deterred from exploring all ways towards exposing enemies of unity in the land and restore the lasting peace the chiefdom was known for and called on security operatives to be more proactive anytime they get intelligence reports.
A cross section of participants who spoke at the meetings expressed optimism that the ongoing mediation efforts will yield the desired results to enable their people live normal lives and go about their activities without fear of attacks.
