The Bring Back Our Girls Group (BBOG) has commended LEADERSHIP newspapers for its commitment to the group’s cause of sustained advocacy for the safe rescue of the abducted Chibok School girls.
The co-convener of the group and former minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili made the commendation yesterday, when the group paid a thank you visit to the corporate headquarters of Leadership Group in Abuja.
The group said, LEADERSHIP has through its persistent reportage of the group’s activities shown purposefulness to the cause of the Chibok Girls.
Dr. Ezekwesili said, among the reasons for their visit is to deeply appreciate LEADERSHIP for the leadership role it plays among the print media, in the dissemination of the group’s activities.
Ezekwesili said LEADERSHIP has distinguished itself as the conveyor of accountability, which is one of the critical role expected of the fourth estate of the realm in any democracy.
She commended the LEADERSHIP staff that covered the activities of the group, since its inception. “The three of your staff that has covered our activities since we started three years ago were thorough breed professionals. Ejike Ejike, Chika Mefor and an IT student, Rose Samuel. It is instructive to note that, one of our partners, a CNN reporter, Jim Clancy commended LEADERSHIP reporters for excellent job.”
The second reason for the visit, according to Ezekwesili was to seek the continuous support of LEADERSHIP as the group prepares to mark the three years of the advocacy that starts on 30th April, 2014. She said, the group is lining up activities to mark the third year of the tragic event.
The group she said, least expected to still remain in the agitation for the release of the girls three years on. She however, said, the group will not back out until the girls and other hostages are released. She noted that the Chibok girls was only a springboard on behalf of thousands of women abducted by the Boko Haram sect.
Also speaking, the chairman of KJ Baku Area Development Association (KADA) – an association of Chibok people, Tsambido Hosea Abana expressed the gratitude of the people of Chibok to LEADERSHIP for its sustained support.
Mr Abana said only God will reward LEADERSHIP, as the Chibok community cannot adequately do so.
