Traditional rulers and residents of major towns in North East states of Bauchi and Gombe are excited about the ongoing Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) cashless policy sensitisation programme, which is being carried out by Bizi Mobile Cashless Consultant.
The sensitisation programme is designed to cover the rural areas in five local government areas in Bauchi State, and several others in Gombe State.
Places that were visited included markets, lectures in the tertiary institutions and meetings with traditional rulers, among others. In his speech at the various places visited, the MD/CEO Bizi Mobile Cashless Consultant Limited, Alhaji Aminu Aminu Bizi explained that the sensitisation policy was aimed at encouraging Nigerians to explore other channels in meeting their payment and money transaction needs.
“The cashless Nigeria is a Central Bank of Nigeria initiative to encourage people to use other payment channels instead of cash. It doesn’t mean that there will be no more cash in Nigeria, it only means that people can use either cards or mobile phone or the internet to pay for goods and services, as an alternative to cash,” he said.
He also said that these channels are not only inexpensive but also safer and more convenient than using cash. “It also reduces the cost of banking services, drives financial inclusion and also it will reduce high security and safety risks, eg, kidnapping, robberies, and other cash related crimes,” he pointed out.
Places visited by the Bizi Mobile team in Gombe and Bauchi states are; Kasheri, Billiri, Dukku, Dass, Misau, and Giade towns.
In their different remarks, the traditional rulers commended CBN for the implementation of the policy, and also commended CBN for choosing Bizi Mobile as cashless consultants.
Similarly, Gombe Internal Revenue Service commended Bizi Mobile for taking the sensitisation campaign to the grassroots, while using the opportunity to seek for partnership with the firm.
