The House of Representatives yesterday resolved to investigate recent appointment of directors for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) by the presidency.
The House, however, mandated its committee on Federal Character to carry-out a comprehensive review of all appointments and recruitments in the agency.
The lawmakers also urged FAAN to urgently review its recent appointment of directors and ensure that it complied with section 14(3) of the constitution.
The member representing Obio Akpor federal constituency of Rivers State, Hon. Kingsley Chinda, in a motion observed the need to investigate the lopsided appointment.
According to him, there has been lots of lopsided appointment into public offices by the federal government in recent time.
“The vice-President made some key appointments in the aviation sector where about six directors out of others were appointed along tribal and religious lines to the detriment of other geo-political zones. The Federal Character principle is clearly in breach, as there exists several cases os lopsided appointments, recruitment.”Chinda added that; “unless urgent steps are taken to check the prevailing imbalance in the appointments and sharing of federal government’s posts in the country, people will continue to be in discontent and generally become despondent,” he stated.
The House ,however ,mandated it’s committee on Legislative Compliance to ensure that the resolution is complied with.
