A frontline public commentator and civil rights activist‎, Nnanna Ibemgbo has given a vote of confidence and a pass mark to the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
Ibemgbon, who stated this yesterday, said that unfolding events of President Muhammadu Buhari’s health vacation has put pessimists and unruly critics in a tight corner because what they had expected the situation to result into did not happen.
He said that those who saw President Buhari as arrogant, proud, sectional, and unyielding did not expect that he would transmit power to the Vice President before going on vacation.
According to him, “as against erroneous opinions and wild criticisms ranging from claims of undemocratic tendencies and allegations of ineffective policies and initiatives, a careful look at the Nigerian socio-political situation, as it is in the present time, in compares with what was obtainable in the past, would reveal a clear cut discernible pattern of running a government.
“Any political observer would agree that the public already knows and understands that the Buhari system of administration is completely merit driven and excellence focused”.
He went further to say, “It could also be clearly understood that President Muhammadu Buhari’s zero tolerance for corruption, impatience with ineptitude, and utter distaste of unpatriotic tendencies consist in the driving force of the machinery of his system of governance”.
Ibemgbo remarked that discipline, patriotism, and national consciousness are fast gaining positions in the polity once again.
He said that Nigerians are now careful with what they do and how they handle public trust. The rate of pilfering public fund has reduced drastically. Civil servants are fast learning to readjust to their means, because avenues for self help with public funds have been plugged. In his opinion, “this is the right sense of good governance delivery and politico-socio – cultural awareness which the nation had so much missed during the past administrations”.
He added that in all fairness, as against general expectations, President Muhammadu Buhari has excelled in all the political “litmus tests” and “banana peels” which detractors and agent provocateurs might have been laid on his way.
“In then past we were used to unnecessary controversies regarding transmission of power on health grounds. As a true democrat, due process, and rule of law compliant, President Buhari, without raising any controversies, had personally and willingly undertaken an open and official transmission of power to then Vice President Yemi Osinbajo before proceeding on health vacation.
“This is commendable and a true democrat’s step- ahead. It is more of a democratic discipline and leadership plus for a man who the Nigerian public has constantly associated with undemocratic tendencies”.
