Senator Andy Uba representing Anambra South senatorial district of Anambra State yesterday announced his formal defection to the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) on the floor of the Senate.
This was disclosed in a letter of notification addressed to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and read by the latter at plenary.
By his decision to quit the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Uba has automatically lost his chairmanship of the juicy Senate Public Accounts Committee (SPAC), which is traditionally reserved for opposition lawmakers.
LEADERSHIP reports that Senator Uba had on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, disclosed his intention to quit the PDP at a news briefing in his country home of Uga in Aguata local government area of Anambra State.
According to him, APC has ideology and focus which he needed to tap into to provide quality representation to his constituents.
The lawmaker further said that he joined the APC because of other personalities in the party with sound ideas and whom he looked up to in politics.
He listed some of the personalities to include the Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige, and APC National Auditor, Chief George Muoghalu, stressing that with such caliber of people, the party would take the state to enviable heights.
