Rivers State governor, Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike and the All Progressives Congress (APC), have disagreed on the judgement of the Court of Appeal, Port Harcourt, which confirmed Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the Acting National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Court of Appeal had while delivering a judgement that lasted over three hours last Friday, also nullified the May 21, 2016 National Convention of the PDP, held in Port Harcourt, which dissolved the Sheriif-led executive of the party and elected a National Caretaker Committee led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi.

But, Wike, while speaking on a live television programme monitored in Port Harcourt yesterday, said the Makarfi-led PDP had filed a stay of execution against the judgement of the Appeal Court, insisting that the judgement cannot stand, and emphasized that he will not recognise Sheriff as the chairman of the PDP because of his alleged questionable character.

But reacting to Wike’s statement, the APC said it was shocked that the governor boasted that the Makarfi-led faction of the PDP would  get positive judgement at the Supreme Court exactly the same way he got positive judgement at the Supreme Court.

The APC, in a statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday by its chairman in the state, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, said it is pleased with the Federal Government for cleansing the judiciary of rot, which made it possible for the likes of Wike to get favourable judgement.

The statement reads, “The All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers State Chapter has observed with shock as the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike repeatedly boasted on national television Sunday that his faction of the PDP would surely get positive judgement at the Supreme Court exactly the same way he got Supreme Court to declare him as duly elected governor of Rivers State even after the apex court had earlier declared Rivers State as a theatre of war.
