The #BringBackOurGirls (BBOG) group has stated that it is long overdue for President MuhammedBuhari to visit the Northeast again.
In a press release signed by the leaders of the group, Dr Oby Ezekwesili and Aisha Yesufu stated that it will be exactly 2 years since President Muhammadu Buhari was last in the Northeast to see things first hand for himself.
It added that the president has neglected, failed or refused to go to the Northeast to see things for himself, commiserate with the people, empathise with the IDP situation, and cheer the troops who are sacrificing day and night in the counterinsurgency war.
“This week will be exactly two years since President Muhammadu Buhari was last in the Northeast to see things first hand for himself, which was during electioneering. As president he has neglected, failed or refused to go to the Northeast to see things for himself, commiserate with the people, empathise with the IDP situation, and cheer the troops who are sacrificing day and night in the counterinsurgency war. This is so despite several reminders in the last two years,” it said.
Recall that the group last year, emphasised the need for President Buhari to embark on comprehensive tour of the North East especially areas which have been most hit by the activities of the Boko Haram sect.
In a press release during its special conference organised 14th of every month and signed by the leaders of the group, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, Aisha Yesufu and Hadiza Bala Usman, it stated that the visit which should include those communities needing reassurance of the government for their residents to return and resettle into normal life, would help restore confidence to the residents.
“The president does in fact need to embark on a comprehensive tour of the North East areas most hit by terrorist activities; especially in Borno (and Yobe). Some areas to be visited may include those communities needing reassurance of the government for their residents to return and resettle into normal life. Such a gesture of visits would help restore confidence to the residents more than a thousand words can.
