The Senate, yesterday, said it welcomes President Muhammadu Buhari’s effort in constituting a committee to identify matters set the executive against federal lawmakers in the country.

The Senate spokesman, Senator Aliyu Abdullahi Sabi who had a chat with journalists in the National Assembly yesterday, said the Senate President, Bukola Saraki  had officially been notified by the Presidency of this initiative of President Buhari, adding that it is a welcome development.

Sabi said it is obvious that the relationship between the executive and the lawmakers  have not been smooth, adding that the representatives of these two arms of government need to sit down and identify the grey areas leading to quarrels.

Disturbed by the stand-off between the executive and the Senate, President Buhari constituted a committee to come up with recommendations on how to resolve the row amicably.

The minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, while fielding questions from State House correspondents at the end of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said the executive was concerned about its relationship with the legislature and a committee had been set up to resolve the differences.

However, Sabi said the Senate was ready for the peace moves since the senate has always taken steps in the best interest of Nigerians.
